Granville is home to two museums that cater to people of all ages.

The Pember Museum, located on the second floor of the Pember Library & Museum building (with elevator access), is a local gem. Featuring thousands of wildlife, egg, and plant specimens displayed in Victorian-era cases, this museum is free to the public, and is well worth a visit. The Slate Valley Museum, open seasonally May-October, offers a glimpse into Granville’s rich legacy in slate quarrying. Explore exhibits or attend one of their many kid-friendly events to learn more about The Colored Slate Capital of the World.

Read a book

The Pember Library is part of the Southern Adirondack Library System, offering a broad selection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and kid’s activities. The library also hosts events for kids of all ages -from their Mad Scientist Club to the weekly Peapods program for pre-schoolers.

The Pember Library also maintains a Storywalk Trail. The StoryWalk Trail features 14 placards set up at easily walkable intervals. These placards feature successive pages from a short story, ideal for children ages 3-8. The story is changed out monthly.

Experience magic

At the Main Street intersection of the D&H Rail Trail, children will be delighted by the Granville Ladybug Garden pocket park. Garden beds overflow with bright flowers and homemade art, and there are spaces for children to write a letter to the Ladybug Fairy, trade jewelry and treats, and to leave letters for Santa in the winter months.

Head out for a walk

Go fishing

Granville is home to a number of parks and playgrounds that will delight little ones all year round. From picnicking in the Mettowee River Park to playing on the playground at the Little League Park, there are endless ways to enjoy the outdoors in Granville.

Granville’s Little League Park offers baseball diamonds and open fields for those seeking to play a game of baseball, or just run around and let some steam off.

There are also baseball and soccer fields near the Price Chopper, behind the Granville Jr. Sr. High School.

If pickleball is your sport, the Mettowee River Park offers two pickleball courts installed in 2024.

Go bowling

Slate Valley Lanes is open daily and offers traditional and bumper-assisted bowling. The alley is also home to an arcade and golf simulator, fun for the whole family.
