Exploring the StoryWalk® Trail
Looking for something to do with your littles? Check out the StoryWalk® Trail, located in the heart of Granville Village. Kids and parents both will love this activity that combines reading and the great outdoors.
The StoryWalk® Trail features 14 placards set up at easily walkable intervals. These placards feature successive pages from a short story, ideal for children ages 3-8. The story is changed out monthly by The Pember Library.
Granville’s StoryWalk® is part of a national program that promotes early literacy and healthy movement. By combining reading with walking in pedestrian-only zones, StoryWalk® promotes both healthy brain development and physical activity.
Not only is it healthy, it’s a fun activity to do with the family. Children ages 3-8 will practice their literacy skills while playing in the outdoors. Stories are refreshed on a monthly basis, ensuring that there is something new to read all year long. The trail follows the Mettowee River, and is pedestrian-only, creating a safe space for kids to play. The StoryWalk® is open and maintained year-round, offering a reading adventure no matter the season.
The trail starts on the D&H Rail Trail where it intersects Main Street near The Station House B&B. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking lot. Visitors can then follow the Storywalk along the D&H Rail Trail until just before the pedestrian bridge over the Mettowee River. Before the bridge, take a right on the gravel path to continue following the course of the river. Follow this path past the Slate Valley Museum and across the covered footbridge. The StoryWalk™ ends at The Pember Library & Natural History Museum.
Explore the StoryWalk® the next time you’re in the Granville Village. This wonderful resource combines fun and learning for the whole family.
