Anglers are gearing up for winter traditions with a series of February ice fishing derbies.

Hosted by local organizations, these events are the best of Vermont’s outdoorsmanship and supporting service-driven clubs that strengthen small towns year-round.

The season starts with the Frosty Derby on Lake St. Catherine, sponsored by the Poultney Fish and Game Club, on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Headquarters at Lake St. Catherine State Park, where anglers of all ages can gather for a day on the ice. The Poultney Fish and Game Club’s commitment to conservation makes this derby a meaningful start to the winter calendar.

Then the Lake Bomoseen Ice Fishing Derby, hosted by the Castleton Lions Club on Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16, 2026. Based out of Crystal Beach, with headquarters in the trailer beside the aging beach facility, this popular event reflects the Lions Club’s tradition of community service and fundraising that benefits local needs throughout the year.

Together these events honor Vermont’s proud heritage of outdoor recreation, volunteerism, and neighbors coming together in the great outdoors.
