Mettowee River Fishing Report July 16, 2025
Fishing report by Maxx Juckett
The Mettowee River is running quite low this week. Clarity is as good as it gets so the fish are spooky. Water temps have climbed to 73° and the gage in Middle Granville has a height of 3.2 feet and a flow of 51 cfs.
Catch and release fishing is not recommended in these conditions as the trout are not likely to survive the stress. If you’re fishing to keep fish, feel free to try your luck, there are fish holding in the deeper holes but they are very weary and feeling this heat. Try throwing streamers or spinning gear to get a reaction bite as these fish generally aren’t eating.
If keeping fish isn’t your thing, try fishing any of our local lakes. I would recommend Lake Saint Catherine, Cossayuna Lake or Lake Champlain for any variety of warm water species including bass, pike and sunfish.
