The bite has been tough over the past few weeks, with no end in sight due to persistently high temperatures and minimal rainfall. However, some dedicated anglers have found success early in the morning by targeting plunge pools or deeper holes.

The Mettawee River is currently very low and warm. While still fishable, you may want to consider heading to higher elevations for cooler water. Alternatively, nearby lakes or the northern end of the Mettawee—around Upper Turnpike Rd.—could offer better conditions, especially for warm-water species like smallmouth bass.

Current Mettowee River Stats:

  • Streamflow: 23 cfs

  • Gage Height: 3.03 ft

  • Water Temperature: Mid-70s °F
